The ReelLIFE SCIENCE Video Competition is back for 2019!

ReelLIFE SCIENCE makes me a lot more interested in science. Maybe in the future I will become the world’s greatest scientist all due to this competition. We will definitely be entering again next year.” Aoibhin aged 11.

The contest is open to participants of all ages, from Primary and Secondary Schools, Youth Organisations, Community Groups and Clubs all around Ireland. We want you to share your passion for STEM while having some fun along the way!

ReelLIFE SCIENCE challenges participants to teach the public about STEM by picking up a camera, tablet or smartphone and making an engaging and educational three minute video. Videos can be live action or animated, in English or Irish – the choice is yours!

This year’s competition topics include ‘Climate Action!’, ‘How Things Work‘, ‘Science and Me‘ and ‘Science in Space‘. Closing date for entries is Friday October 18th.

ReelLIFE SCIENCE is a brilliant idea. I’m really honoured to be a judge and can’t wait to see the videos. You never stop learning when you love science and I can’t wait to see what this years students have to teach me.” Joanna Donnelly, Met Éireann

In 2019, winning videos will be selected by a panel of Special Guest Judges including meteorologist and RTÉ presenter Joanna Donnelly, author and BBC Inside Science presenter Dr. Adam Rutherford and BT Young Scientist and SciFest winner Adam Kelly, who was also a ReelLIFE SCIENCE prizewinner last year! Results will be announced during Science Week 2019 and the best videos will be screened for the public at the Galway Science and Technology Festival on Sunday November 24th.

“We are delighted to support this initiative, which cleverly combines science literacy and creativity, while providing a great opportunity for students and teachers to think about how to communicate scientific topics in a novel way. ReelLIFE SCIENCE encourages young people to connect with the science and technology in their everyday lives, and to bring that knowledge to a wider audience, while promoting current Irish scientific research and development.” Dr. Ruth Freeman, SFI.

Based in NUI Galway and supported by Science Foundation Ireland’s SFI Discover Programme, the Community Knowledge Initiative, the CÚRAM SFI Research Centre for Medical Devices, the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science and the Cell EXPLORERS outreach programme, ReelLIFE SCIENCE will award over €5000 in prizes this year, with the makers of the best videos at Community Group, Primary School and Secondary School level each receiving €1000.
